William Patrick “Pat” Collins has been selected to serve as Tattnall County High School’s next head football coach.
Coach Collins is originally from Lyons, Georgia where he played high school football for Coach Jacky Jones from 1983-1986, earning four varsity letters.
Coach Collins completed his post secondary education at Georgia Southern College from June of 1987 to June of 1990. In this three year span, Coach Collins earned a degree as a Secondary Mathematics teacher.
Coach Collins began teaching and coaching in 1990 at Statesboro High School. Throughout his career, he has served as a school administrator for four years, an athletic director for ten years, an assistant athletic director for 2 years, a head football coach for 21 years, an assistant head coach or offensive coordinator for 8 years and a Secondary Math instructor for 28 years. As a head coach, Coach Collins has eclipsed the 100 victory milestone. He has often taken over programs that were having little or no success and restructured them into winning programs that garnered a high level of student participation and community support. Additionally, Coach Collins’ teams have won four state championships and two runners-up in weight training. Overall, Coach Collins has competed in 32 career play-off games as either the head coach or an assistant coach, including one state championship game, two semi-final games and four quarterfinal games. Coach Collins has served as a region secretary and has coached in the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association All Star Classic.
Coach Collins has been married to Sherri Donaldson Collins of Statesboro for 32 years. Coach and Mrs. Collins have four children Will (27, married to Mary Anne), Tyler (25), John Daniel (23, married to Hannah) and Laura Elizabeth (13). Additionally, they have three grandchildren Ryan (4), Liza (2), and Olivia (9 months).
